Student parking spot costs $20,000 in Westlake PTO fundraiser

Spaces are located in the Westlake High School TLC parking lot, which is across the street from the school near the softball fields.

AUSTIN, Texas — Three parking spaces at Westlake High School are selling for a high price as part of a fundraiser for the school, including one that cost $20,000.

Money raised from student-only parking spaces will go to the Westlake PTO, which helps fund faculty and staff requests as well as support campus activities that “enhance our students’ high school experience,” according to the organization’s website.

The $20,000 spot sold out on Monday, the first day of fundraising. It was offered as an option “for that lucky person who isn’t interested in bidding and just wants to support the WHS PTO”.

Two more parking spots were up for grabs, with bids starting at $5,000. On Wednesday afternoon, first place was $10,000, while second was $5,000. Auction ends Thursday at 4 p.m.

The spaces are in the school’s TLC parking lot, according to the auction website. This lot is located across from the school near the softball fields.

For the past few years, we have auctioned off parking spaces to raise money to give back to Westlake High School. We are grateful for our Westlake families who choose to support our programs which help fund all of these efforts and more.

This year’s $20,000 bid beats Westlake PTO’s 2021 fundraising highest price, when the highest bid was $12,000 for a parking space.

Eanes ISD policy allows up to four parking spaces to be sold as part of the Westlake PTO fundraiser each year.

Students who wish to purchase parking spaces outside of fundraising can purchase permits for $150 for seniors and $40 per term for juniors, according to Westlake High School’s website. Seniors have priority for these parking spaces.

The PTO released the following statement on Wednesday:

“WHS PTO is a parent and teacher organization that encourages, assists and supports the staff, teachers and administration of Westlake High School in providing a high quality education to all WHS students.

“We help fund many activities and improvements throughout the school year. Several examples of what we help fund are staff appreciation lunches, classroom supplies as needed, Day seniors service and various campus improvements.

“Over the past few years, we have funded outdoor spaces that serve as both learning spaces and places where students can gather at lunchtime or other times. For this school year , we are focused on continuing to improve outdoor spaces for staff and student use.Research at the K-12 level indicates that outdoor experiences lead to higher engagement and test scores among students.
