City of Roanoke Public Schools Prepare for Student Career Fair

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – You don’t have to go far to see Help Wanted signs.

Jobs are available and Roanoke City Public Schools has plenty of young talent to offer.

“Being able to connect our students with employers in the region. Its very important. This fills a void. This meets the needs, not only of our students, but also of our employers,” says Verletta White, Superintendent of Public Schools for the City of Roanoke.

Superintendent White says more than 70 employers have signed up to attend next week’s RCPS Works job fair.

“We have industries from banking, construction, City of Roanoke, RCPS, so we have restaurants – all types of industries will be represented there,” White explains.

Whatever they’re looking for, whether it’s a summer job, after school, or an internship, student applicants should find it.

White says the job fair will help students make connections and learn important life skills.

“We work with our students so we can hold their hand through the process. We make sure we have a work permit chart there. We teach them how to show up for an interview, how to present themselves professionally, help them with professional attire, what to say, how to present themselves well,” says White.

Lessons that will benefit students for a lifetime.

The RCPS Works Career Fair takes place Monday, May 23 from 4-7 p.m. at the Berglund Center.
