VALDOSTA – Katie Chappuis, former principal of Dewar Elementary School, has joined the Lowndes County Schools District Leadership Team as Director of Student Services as recommended by Superintendent Wes Taylor.
Chappuis has 25 years of education experience as a teacher, deputy principal and principal, school officials said in a statement.
Sixteen of those years were as an administrator at the building level. She joined Lowndes County Schools as Principal of Dewar Elementary School in 2013 where she remained until she assumed her new role as Principal of Student Support Services.
Under his leadership, Dewar was the first elementary school in Lowndes County to pilot the Sources of Strength suicide prevention program, one of the first to recruit a military family life counselor and campus therapist, said the school officials.
Chappuis has been “a pioneer in implementing and rooting socio-emotional learning in the culture and climate of Dewar Elementary with the goal of becoming a designated Trauma Informed School,” officials said. ‘school. “She has always been a strong advocate for her students and their families.”
