Carver Principal Named Director of Student Services for Waterloo Schools | Education News

WATERLOO — Sheena Canady has been appointed director of student services at Waterloo Community Schools, subject to school board approval.

Canady is currently principal of the George Washington Carver Academy and has worked in the district since 2016.

“I am beyond humbled as I embark on this new journey as Director of Student Services. It has been my honor to serve our amazing Waterloo students and families,” Canady said in a press release. “We have exceptional staff who are committed to ensuring the success of all of our students.

“I am so excited to continue this work within our Student Services department,” she added.

“Sheena has done a great job of building systems to support all students,” Superintendent Jane Lindaman said. “I’m confident she will do a great job supporting our students, families and staff. Sheena is an innovative leader and will continue to build on the work of her predecessors.

Prior to her tenure as principal of Carver, Canady served as the school’s vice principal and activities director. Previously, she was Associate Principal of the Dr. Walter Cunningham School for Excellence. Previously, she was a teacher in Cedar Falls at Holmes Junior High School.

Canady graduated from Mount Mercy University with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and a minor in history. She earned a master’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in instructional leadership in 2016.

Canady takes office on July 1. She replaces Marla Padget, who is retiring at the end of the school year.
